MY FAVORITE TV SERIES FOR LONG TRAVELS

For me, one of the best ways to entertain myself during long journeys is to watch TV series. Here are my choices:

1. HOMELAND

This is an american political thriller television series.
The main role is taken by a CIA officer, Carrie Mathison. The history turns around the conflicts in the middle east, the US intervention, and what is behind them (all the betrayals and lies as well).

2. REVENGE

A drama, mystery and a physchological thriller series.
A daughter who wants to revenge her fathers death. A surreal and intriguing series.

3. THE BIG BANG THEORY

If you prefer comedy, this is so far one of the best!
It's about a group of four physicists, working in a university, who like to play pc games and do not know how to handle women.
Well, my boyfriend is a physicist... but this isn't a skewed opinion.

4. MODERN FAMILY

If The Big Bang doesn't fits you, this is another option. Breaking the traditional nuclear family, this is a funny entertaining show.

5. SUITS

We all know that you like law cases! In this TV series you can see a non-lawyer, who works in a law firm, gaining all cases and putting the senior lawyers behind him.

6. BREAKING BAD

This drama and black humor series is over, but it doesn't hurt to watch it over and over again.
It is about a chemistry teacher who has cancer and a few months to live. He decided to fabricate and sell drugs for hoarding for the family, but a lot happens in the meantime.

7. MR SELFRIDGE

London, early 1900's. The real-life story of the american founder of Selfridge's, London's department store.

8. DOWNTON ABBEY

It is a British series, round in Hampshire, England. Portrays an English aristocratic family and their servants, in the early twentieth century, from 1912.
For me, it is a series to see when I want to fall asleep. :)

Deixo aqui as minhas escolhas:

1. HOMELAND

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE VISITING PORTUGAL

1. OLD PEOPLE DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH

If you are planning to catch a cab when you arrive, be prepared! If the driver is more than 50 years old, he probably won’t speak English.

2. IT IS A CHEAP COUNTRY

You can eat for 10€ a main course, soup, and coffee.

3. PORTO IS IN THE NORTH AND LISBON IS IN THE SOUTH

Please, make no mistake! There will be always a conflict between the North and the South like Madrid vs Barcelona.

4. WE HAVE THE BEST DESSERT WINE

Porto Wine is a world-renowned dessert wine.

5. WE MAKE DELICIOUS CODFISH DISHES

Ok, this is a good thing! We have a lot of codfish dishes and we eat it after been dried and salted. We don't eat fresh codfish.

6. WE HAVE ALGARVE AND MADEIRA

They are sunny, warm, cheap and lovely places for your next holidays.

7. WE HAVE FADO

You can see and listen to people singing fado in the old coffees in Lisbon.

8. DON'T EXPECT TO BECOME A FANATIC OF PORTUGUESE SWEETS

Pastel de Nata is the most famous and tasteful portuguese sweet. The other ones are only a cheap and a poor imitation of the french cuisine or only sugar plus sugar. We are not good with desserts!

9. YOU CAN HAVE A GOOD AND CHEAP COFFEE

The portuguese coffee is short, intense, flavoured and creamy.

10. OUR LAST PRIME MINISTER (JOSÉ SÓCRATES) IS IN JAIL

You can have an idea on how this country is being ruled.

TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IN SAN SEBASTIÁN

1. SUNBATHING ON LA CONCHA AND ONDARRETA BEACHES

If you are with your family and want to avoid confusion, you must go to the Ondarreta beach.
The Concha is one of the most famous beaches in Spain, with white sand and warm and calm waters that invite you to take a dip.

2. EAT LIKE A LOCAL IN THE OLD TOWN - PINTXOS

Take a stroll to the old town. Enjoy the views and look up to the old buildings (ayuntamiento, casino, churches...) and lunch some pintxos in one of the many bars located in zona vieja. I recommend you to eat the famous foie gras pintxo in "La Cuchara de San Telmo".

3. PRAY IN THE STUNNING BUEN PASTOR CATHEDRAL

Yeah, I know that you can be atheist or a non catholic person but you need to go and see the magnitude of this church. I fell in love by this cathedral. Every time I pass by it, I just stop and take a deep breath while I'm looking to this magnificent church.

4. TAKE THE FUNICULAR TO THE IGUELDO MOUNT

No, you aren't in Montmartre! Here you also have a old funicular that helps you to reach the Igueldo mount's top. Go and take some astonishing photos of the beaches, Santa Clara island and Urgull mount.

5. CLIMB TO THE URGULL MOUNT

It isn't easy with hot weather, but worth it for the views! You can also learn some of Donostia's history, in the museum located in the Urgull mount.

6. COME IN SEPTEMBER AND ENJOY THE SAN SEBASTIÁN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

If you pretend to visit Donostia in September you can be able to see some your favorites actors in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre or/and in the Kursaal Congress Center.

7. IF YOU ARE A SURF-LOVER, THE GROS' BEACH IS THE IDEAL ONE FOR YOU

Zurriola is the name of the beach located in a Donostia's district called Gros. It is well known for the surf and bodyboard activities.

8. TASTE A SWEET IN ONE OF THESE PASTRIES SHOPS: OTAEGUI, OYARTZUN OR BARRENETXE;  OR A ICE-CREAM IN THE BOULEVARD ICE-CREAM PARLOR

Otaegui, Oiartzun and Barrenetxe are the oldest pastries shops in Donostia and are very famous for its sweets. You can buy the traditional basque cake, artesanal chocolates or even turones if you are here in the christmas season. But if it is too hot outside, nothing fits more than an ice-cream in Boulevard (very very good, the best I have tasted till now).

9. TAKE A BREAK IN MIRAMAR PALACE GARDENS

A good place to take a nap in the garden with the sea's sound as background.

10. IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT, DINE IN A MICHELIN-STARRED RESTAURANT

San Sebastián is one of the cities in the world which holds the highest number of Michelin stars per square meter.
Akelarre ***, Arzak ***, Martín Berasategui *** and Mugaritz ** are the restaurants with more michelin stars in Donostia. But there are more! Go and tell me your experience!

Because Donostia is in vogue, I will share with you a tempting spot to relax, take a tea, listen to the rain, read and of course eat something sweet. Near the Concha beach and a few minutes away from the old vilage we can find the Gogoko Goxuak café (the newest one of its family, the oldest is located in Guipzcoa plaza).
After the success of the first coffee shop, they decided to open this new one. It's more cousy and ideal for cold and rainy days; ah, they also included lunches in the menu. The older coffee is more appropriate for a quick coffee or tea between the weekend shopping and strolls.
Walls of stone in white, two main rooms and a terrace, beautiful stained glasses, a nice fireplace and with friendly employees. I definitely recommend it, and will surely be back to it many times!
Here goes a few pictures!
Ficam as fotos!

Donostia & Atari Gastroteka's Pintxos

Hey there! Last friday we went for a stroll in San sebastián. We did some shopping and then we decided to dine in Atari Gastroteka bar, located in the old town.
We opted for some tapas (pintxos). I ate a small plate with bonito, basque peppers, anchovies and olives (not in the picture); a handmade foie gras with raisin and walnut bread; and divided a grilled prown brochette with cider vinaigrette with my boyfriend. He took a grilled foie gras with white chocolate cream and sweetcorn, and picked two distincts pintxos from the counter.
We paid about 28€, with two wine glasses included, and it was the best pintxos we ate so far in Donostia. They were flavorous!
With a small donostia movie I finish today's post :). Have a nice week!
Decidimos comer umas tapas (pintxos).

Zaragoza

Hey, everyone! Today's blog entry is about Zaragoza.
Zaragoza is a spanish town squeezed between Barcelona and San Sebastián, with a very spanish personality, but overall lacks turist attractions.
You can say that the city life swirls around The Basilica–Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar, with the main comercial streets leading to it. It is a roman catholic church and it is reputed to be the first church dedicated to Mary in history. Ken Follet writes about this cathedral in his book " The Pillars of the Earth".
Due to its industrial character you can see a lot of street art, but properly integrated with the city environment.
Here goes a couple of the photos I took there! Have a nice weekend!
The Pillars of the Earth".

San Sebastián without Pintxos | San Sebastián sem Pintxos

Yesterday was a diferent saturday. I went to the city center to eat cantonese and japonese food. The city center, old village included, is renowned for its pintxos, but we wanted something diferent, something fresh,  something that we had never eaten before. So we decided for cantonese food, in this case Dim Sum for starter.
Dim Sum  is a style of cantonese food prepared as small bite-sized or individual portions of food traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. I really liked it but to be honest if I have to choose between cantonese food or japonese one, I choose the traditional sushi, sashimi and nigiri that we are used to eat and ate yesterday too, after the dim sum.
